LPBS Costume Parade Day

We had a lot of fun last Friday watching the "littles" parading with their costumes.  As a special treat for me, my grandchildren were able to visit my classroom and meet my students.

EARTHQUAKE POWERPOINTS

I was so pleased at how many of the students were able to stay for the Truth Project video last Tuesday afternoon.  I know that the speaker caused me to ponder.  I look forward to discussing the ideas.

Here are the links for the Powerpoints for Chapter 17-A - Earthquakes.

TRUTH PROJECT AT LPBS

Parents and middle school students have an opportunity to join us for this unique learning experience sponsored by Focus on the Family.  If you have never heard of the Truth Project, please click on the icon below to watch a short video.

We will be viewing one of the videos in the church sanctuary on a Tuesday of each month. (A complete schedule is available in the office.) The first showing will be this Tuesday (September 21st) at 3:15 PM and last about an hour.  This information will help you and your student when faced with conflicting world views and moral situations.  The study goes along with what we have been learning in our science class about faith and science, and I am strongly encouraging my students to attend.

Please join us for the video and time of discussion.

See you tomorrow!

POWERPOINTS FOR CHARTS 1, 3, 5 & 6

We have really had fun with these mnemoic charts learning the concepts that we will use all year in Earth Science.  It is wonderful to study the order and beauty of God's creation.  Here are the Powerpoints for these charts.

REMEMBER - the Powerpoints work best if you download them to your computer.  Then the animations and movies will work.

SEVENTH GRADE FUN DAY

Last week was Spiritual Emphasis Week for seventh and eighth graders.  We talked about relationships, friendships, and a little about dating in the future.  I know God is pleased when we love each other and establish good relationships with each other. After all, Jesus said that the second most important commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves.

In science, we had an exciting week of experiments and charts!

Here are a few photos from the seventh grade's fun day at Lakeside Park.

Don't forget PTF meeting is Monday, September 13th, at 7 PM.

Looking forward to a great week!

EARTH SCIENCE - CHAPTER ONE

We are almost finished with Chapter 1 in our Earth and Space Science book.  I know that it is not the most "exciting" chapter in the world - but it is filled with vocabulary and concepts we will use all year.  Click below for the PowerPoint we have finished.  I also put the link for the Zoom PowerPoint we watched in class today. See you tomorrow!

PEANUT ISLAND TRIP WAS A BLAST!

I have to thank Dr. Arnone for letting us take this unusually early field trip.  It was a blast!  I send thanks to the parents for all the chips, cookies, watermelon, drinks - we had more than enough.  I send thanks to the kids for not getting into any trouble whatsoever.  I did not have to correct one student!  Truly amazing kids!

Thanks to the Mrs Woodall, Mrs. Schumacher, and Mrs. Schwartz that covered for us at school.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

What I really like about the first day of school.

1.  Seeing all my former students.
2.  Meeting all my new students.
3.  Everyone on their best behavior.
4.  Sharing a little about myself.
5.  Having a really clean room to start the year.
6.  Having Mr. Mike and Dr. Arnone "pop" in to greet everyone.
7.  New folders that are all in one piece.... (how long will that last?)

What I really don't like about the first day of school.
1.  Getting up early!
2.  Getting up early - did I already say that????
3.  Doing all the talking
4.  Sore throat by the end of the day.
5.  Really tired by the end of the day.

Eighth Grade Peanut Island Trip

Our eighth grade is starting the year off right – with a special field trip to Peanut Island on Friday, August 20th. We will take the ferry over to the island and back, and return to school for dismissal.

WHO: All students and parents are invited.

COST: The ferry costs $6 per person. I will collect your money at school prior to the trip – that means tomorrow!

FOOD: Bring your lunch and drinks in an insulated lunch bag or small cooler. There is nothing available on the island (the weekend food boats are not there on weekdays). Also bring a bag of chips, package of cookies, or a six pack of water or soda to share. We will bring a cooler with ice from school.

WEAR: Your bathing suit! Boys – wear your PE shirt. Girls – wear your PE shirt and shorts over your ONE-PIECE suit.

BRING: Towel, sun screen, snorkel equipment, etc. No fishing gear!

DO NOT BRING: iPod, cell phone, electronic games, etc. (If anyone needs to contact of us during the day, they may call school. The school will have my cell phone number.)

We will swim, snorkel, sun bath, and chill out all day. Around lunch time we will get together for a devotion time to get our hearts ready for the new thing that God is going to do in our eighth grade this year.

PERMISSION SLIP AND $6 PER PERSON MUST BE TURNED IN TOMORROW!!!

I was thinking....

When a teacher starts with that phrase, students cringe in fear...  But I've been thinking, wouldn't it be neat if I had a blog where we could interact on a different level.  Now, you are cringing!

I guess what I would like is to have time to share more, different, fun, weird stuff that we just simply cannot get to in the hour of class a day.

So, here it is... I'll start with a video clip that Tiffany shared with me last year.  We'll see where we go from here.  Click below.
